Individual Psychotherapy
Individual therapy services are available in-person or virtually via my secure telehealth platform. Sessions are tailored to each client's personal needs. The initial three sessions are used as an assessment of needs and goals for therapy which allow us to work together to develop a treatment plan which best suits you. Dependent on your needs and goals, the length and approach to therapy will vary. Therapy will not make your discomforting emotions go away, but it can help you to learn skills to reinterpret and respond to feelings in ways that facilitate healthier functioning.
My therapeutic style in informed by the following theoretical approaches to treatment:
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): An approach to therapy which focuses on the relation between feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. We will work together to identify the ways in which your thoughts and behaviors may be negatively impacting your functioning. You will learn skills to restructure thoughts, facilitate behavioral change, and tolerate distressing emotions.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): An action-oriented approach to therapy that focuses on accepting emotions as they come and remaining committed to goal-oriented, values-driven acting regardless of them. We will work together to identify the values which inform your behavior. You will learn skills for focusing thoughts on these values and tolerating your emotions so that you can continue to move toward your goals.
-
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): An approach to therapy that focuses on learning skills to manage emotions and reduce conflict in relationships. We will work together to identify your emotions and the ways in which they are negatively impacting your life. You will learn skills for mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
